Games for Halloween

Lists are rubbish. So here's a list of games to play over the Halloween period and there are no bullshit jump-scares in sight.
Spooky

The Walking Dead: Season One

Clementine and Lee
Released in 2012, The Walking Dead: Season One is still Telltale's finest game. It revitalized the 'point and click' adventure game by placing an emphasis on story rather than puzzle solving. Bleak and harrowing, yet heartwarming with moments of beauty. A must play.

Silent Hill 2

James Sunderland
Simply one of the greatest games ever, read our article on it HERE.

Resident Evil 4

Don't worry it just stays there.
Another title that we've covered in depth before (HERE). Resident Evil 4 is the perfect balance between horror and action that, sadly, the latter Resident Evil titles lack. Well worth revisiting on a dark and lonely evening.

Dark Souls

Atmospherically beautiful.

Or Bloodborne, or Demon's Souls but NOT Dark Souls 2. The less you know going into these games the better.

Bioshock

Enter generic "Would you kindly" joke.
Those first moments in Rapture set the tone perfectly. Beautiful setting and genuinely terrifying in places. True first person horror without relying on gimmicks or disempowering the player.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Alucard
An absolute classic. Strikingly similar to the 'Souls' series so, once again, the less you know going into it the better. Beautiful atmosphere and exploration. Any fans of the 'Souls' games will love this.
