Get Dunked: 2GD to be True

James "2GD" Harding - A true esports pioneer |
Sorry to say I won't be returning to the Shanghai major, I was let go after that last segment. We'll always have day 1 together. :(— James Harding (@follow2GD) February 26, 2016
It is unclear, at the moment, why 2GD was removed from the event. It is speculated that his unorthodox style clashes with the clean-cut image Valve, or Perfect World, wants from the event. If that turns out to be the case, it is baffling that 2GD was hired in the first place as his unique style is well known. It is especially puzzling as his hosting talent kept the stream entertaining and informative through massive delays, and is a hugely popular personality among the community.
Regarding the Reddit thread comments, it was valves decision. before the event, I was told to be myself. :(— James Harding (@follow2GD) February 26, 2016
It is sad to see a true esports pioneer cast aside, especially as the majority of fans were excited to see 2GD at a Dota 2 event again after a long hiatus. Much of Dota 2's early popularity, in regards to professional casts, can be attributed to his work with Bruno. They hosted TI2 and TI3 as well as a weekly Dota segment on The GD Show.

A huge part of what makes esports popular is that it doesn't follow the buttoned down rules of traditional sports; it is a new form of competition and entertainment so it is sad to see it follow in the footsteps of traditional sports broadcasting, casting aside the people who helped it grow in the process.
